A woman was on a walk with her mother and French bulldog named Tito in Castro Valley on Saturday evening when she was robbed at gunpoint and the dog was stolen, police said.

Four to five suspects also stole the woman’s purse with a house and car key that they used later to steal her car, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The suspects pulled up in front of the two women in a black SUV, 2019 KIA Niro at 5:30 p.m.on Norbridge Road and approached the mother and daughter, the sheriff’s office said. Three of the suspects were allegedly armed with handguns.

The suspects returned to the woman’s Castro Valley home at 9:45 p.m. in the KIA and stole her vehicle from her driveway, the sheriff’s office said.

The KIA was also a reported stolen vehicle that has been involved in several armed robberies, the Oakland Police Department said.

Sheriff’s detectives are working to identify the suspects and safely recover the dog.

There have been multiple reports of stolen French bulldogs around the Bay Area in the past year. The breed has high value and the American Kennel’s online marketplace with registered Frenchies available in California showed dogs priced at up to $5,000

French bulldog thefts got the nation’s attention when Lady Gaga’s dog walker was shot and two of the singer’s bulldogs, Gustav and Koji, were stolen in Hollywood during an armed robbery. Gaga offered a $500,000 reward, and the animals were recovered, the LA Times said.

Armed robbers assaulted a San Francisco woman last January and stole her 5-month-old French bulldog, and French bulldog named Meryl was stolen at gunpoint in downtown Oakland in November.
